1. Why did you pick the style
“Metal” for your group?
Of course you could explain with pathos, that only metal-strength, the
rest isn’t fresh (not sure about айс). But speaking truthfully, it’s probably
because there is room for creativity. What is metal? Guitars, basses, fast
drumming rhythm +and there is much inner direction of metal+ You just
start playing music that you love, and not trying to assign it to a
specific style. We have people whose souls gravitate specifically towards
heavy, aggressive, different type metal.
2. Since what year is the group performing together?
Strangely since 2008. Before that, of course every member played in other
groups, at times even other types of music, but that’s how it happened,
and we got together recently. If memory doesn’t fail me, it was in
October. In the beginning of November we already had the first demo
recordings ready, and by the end of November the performances started.
3. Your compositions are pretty hardcore for the “normal person,” are you
offended that those types of people don’t take your style of music
seriously?
If they’re not taking it seriously, that means they don’t understand the
essence of music. Now if they don’t like it, than that’s another thing, as
it is known, for every color taste there is a different marker, and there
is nothing to be offended at in that case. It’s unpleasant when people say
“it’s insignificant” and don’t give a reason. And I’m not even upset
because of that, but because of the narrowness of the person who can’t even
explain his point of view. And also that’s something else that’s unclear,
what does a “normal person” mean? We run into people who see us on stage
and not always take us seriously. Something like “Well, right now they’ll
play”+ but when the set ends and we step down from the stage, they’ll run
up and say: “Well, I didn’t expect that you will play like that.” There’s
simply music that appeals to you and that doesn’t. What is there to be
offended about?
4. At what age did you guys get involved with music?
We’re pretty late. Well actually it was different for every one of us. At
some point we all felt that we couldn’t imagine our lives without music.
5. On what would you spend your first honorarium?
It would probably go towards acquiring instruments that we don’t have. We
have tons of ideas but following all of them through is something that we
can’t do. And what’s upsetting the most is that at times it’s only because
of financial problems that we can’t carry out some of our ideas. Strings,
wires, compressors, trinkets, cymbals, who knows what else. We want us to
sound the way we want to sound in studio and in concert, and not the way
our instruments permit us to.
6. What does the band do when not practicing or performing? (Work,
school)?
We work, go to school, come up with ideas, and get ready for practices and
performances. We also search for different people that are interested in
us, or those that we are interested in. A band isn’t just made up of
musicians; there are also people who help out in other areas of the trade.
They are in charge of blogs, gatherings, etc.
7. Did you ever think about being involved in other fields? (Other than
music)
I think business that has something to do with music. I also want my own
studio and a concert agency+ almost everyone has higher education, and
each one is specialized in his own field. Design, PR, management, etc. In Russia
there is a paradoxical situation with musicians; bands that fill large
venues can earn no more than a sales person at a store. That’s not right
of course, so yes, it’s necessary to be in another occupation. We will
hope that in time, every one of us will be able to find a thing that fits
him the best, and won’t really take his time away from the main
activities. Or, even better, something that will intertwine us.
8. Does the group have an album recording in its plans? Maybe a video?
To see what we’re capable of, there was montage clip made up with scenes
from the popular show Dr. House and from our performance at the club Roxy.
Majority of the people liked it, meaning we’ll be continuing the practice.
Of course in our plans we have an album, a video, another album, a single,
and many many albums, videos, and possibly films.
9. How do the songs “come” to the group?
Whoever has an idea writes it down in the irreplaceable GP and sends it so
someone else. That way every one of us gets a chance to edit. At some
point we meet, we play it, write in or take out text, and vuala! We begin
practicing the song. Sometimes a song is born without preparation, often
called “Bullet.” Songs that don’t really stand out as having complicated
parts to it, but have the ability to pump up the crowd. Usually we play
those first as openers.
10. What would you like to say to the magazine and its readers?
Don’t worry your head about styles when choosing what to listen to. In the
world, there is tons of good music. Widen up your prospects and get ready
to be surprised. Stick the head phones in the player and break free. Go to
concerts more often, at times there are interesting groups performing.
Download music and enjoy it. Every piece of music is good in its own
right. And thank you that you are here, because without you, our job would
be pointless.
We will meet again, with respect for you, the group Ezerath.
