The SkullCrows are a Deathrock Band from Columbine Colorado.
- Your group isn't famous in Europe. Tell us about your band. The SkullCrows are a Deathrock Band from Columbine Colorado. Disappointed in the constant whining and male self depreciation found in so much modern “rock” we have made it our goal to bring back a strength and powerin music that we feel has been missing far too long. We believe in keeping the savagery of our roots at the heart of our progressionas musicians. Each piece we produce must be an improvement on the last, but wemaintain a constant strength to our music that we can be proud of.
- How old is your band already? Three years
- Where do you usually perform? (Countries, cities) We are currently on break for recording after the completion of our last U.S.West Coast tour. We have not committed to any dates in the next six months, butyou may soon see some of our music featured in films produced by Sony picturesas well as some Sony games. Also work is being done on some SkullCrows musicvideos, as well as footage from our live show at the Whiskey Agogo in Hollywood.
- What are your favorite bands? We draw ourinfluences from a lot of different places. Each of us comes from a differentplace musically and we try to reflect our individual influences into our workas SkullCrows. Our Vocals are heavily influenced from the clearer, deepersounds of the late forties and early fifties crooners and the later, darkermusic that evolved from that sound. Vocalists like Davey Havok Glen Danzig andDavid Bowie. Most of our leads have a very 1980’s hard rock intensity close tothe sound created by bands like Guns n Roses, Metallica and The Scorpions. Our rhythms have a more modern heavymetal/punk sound to them.
-Remember something funny that happened to you during your concert. Dante (Vocalist): I commonly perform wearing a black Kilt. At our last big showin our home town before our last tour I decided I would try something differentand chose to wear a pair of black, skintight, synthetic leather pants. It was very hot in the venue, and we were very busy running around and going overpreparations with our crew. We were all sweating everywhere, but I remember thinking that my pants weresurprisingly comfortable and fairly breathable for vinyl, especially being that I wasn’t wearing any underwear and had expected to feel myself cramped andsticking to myself, but I was fairly distracted and impatient waiting for ourshow. We came out onstage amidst what may have been the loudest cheers we have gotten, and all the girls were pointing and shouting. Even the male fans had big smiles on their faces, and though they are fairly vocal normally, seemedeven more energetic and their shouts deafeningly thundered across the venue. We played through our beginning intro and were about halfway through the firstsong when I looked down… I had thought at first that I was dreaming, but apparently sometime during ourpreparations, my pants had torn open in the crotch, and EVERYTHING WAS HANGINGOUT!!! To my credit, I didn’t miss a beat, and continued performing with full energywhile unsuccessfully trying to cover myself in front of the crowd. During theguitar solo I managed to find one of our SkullCrows Logo jackets to tie itaround my waist, but as I later found out the rip was all the way from thefront button to the back beltline, and you could still see EVERYTHING wheneverI turned around as I did numerous times every song. After the show we receiveda ton of complements on our incredible stage performance, and apparentlyeveryone thought that it was a planned part of the show. We still get a lot offanmail from some of the girls that were in the crowd.
- Which music style is popular in the world? There is a ton of popular music out today in every style, for us we are just interested in creating something awesome. What is Awesome is not always popular, what is popular is not always awesome.
-Rock – what is it for you? Rock is the best and greatest addiction.
- What do you know about Russia? Have you imagined, fans from Russia are very nice and devotedto their favorite group? We know that Russian chicks are superhot, and that listening to a beautifu lgirl speaking in a thick Russian accent is very distracting.
- What plans do you have for the future? Right now we are recording a new LP titled “I Wish You Were Dead” and we planto promote that with a lot of touring and some new music videos.
- What would you wish to our magazine? Mostly we are just interested in promoting our music in ..Europe..and building a fan base overseas to create a better reception when we tour outthere
