SorrowCryAfterRain : First of all we’d like to say that music is our life.
1) How did your band appear? What was the reason for setting it up? It all began with the two guitarists – Mama and Jema, who, being at school, started playing guitars and back then covered the songs of their favourite musicians. Some time later they decided to set up their own band and play their own music. The staff of the band was forming for a long time when finally became firm in February 2008. Two months later the band played its first gig which arose quite a stir in town. People’s opinions divided: some accused us of being too pathos and some liked our music very much. Later on we got fans, the number of whom is becoming bigger and bigger. The musicians don’t care about all the gossip around them. What’s more, they admit that it does good for their promotion. "The scandals draw more attention to our band, even though it’s a bad kind of attention. But we’re spoken about. That’s our way of screaming that WE ARE HERE! To put it in a nutshell we like to kick up rows. That’s how our home town has learnt about us and now we got down to winning the Internet and the planet” (laugh) 2) How many members are there in the band? What musical instruments do you play? Do you call each other by names or nicknames? The band consists of five members: KiR - scream, growl Mama - guitar2, clean vocal Jema - guitar1 Abu - bass Denchik - drums So, these are our nicknames and how we call each other ) 3) Imagine that you get the chance to become popular but in one country only. Which country would you choose and why? (don’t take Russia and Ukraine into consideration) KiR: I think in Japan, because it’s a very progressive country where they treat heavy music very loyally. The style in which we play is very popular there in contrast to our country, where listeners are not yet ready to take alternative music as it is. I think that we have more chances to win recognition in Japan than in our native land, because here alternative music will remain underground for a long time. Abu: Germany attracts me a lot. The music is well developed there. Most of the gigs of the best hard rock bands are held there. Denchik: I would prefer the Czech Republic as it is a calm country with a high level of living. I’d like to go on learning to play drums there. Jema: England. The best beer is there, the best football is there and music was born there. Mama: Hm… The USA probably… Or England. Everything I like appeared and developed there. I’d like to perform and improve my skills there. The most beautiful and huge gigs with the best sound and the greatest number of fans take place there. This is what I live for. But nevertheless I stick to the idea that Russian music is developing very quickly and soon it will be highly competitive with the American music. 4) Which musical style can you compare love with? KiR: With our own music. Jema: Music which stirs your feelings inside every time you listen to it MaMa: Music!, My Music, Post-hardcore and of course the music I love, the music which gives me shivers and with which I live every day. Denchik: Classical music. 5) If a famous producer got interested in you and said that he could make you popular but on condition you changed your style, like to Visual Keys or Pop, would you agree? KiR: No. Jema: No. Denchik: No, never with these guys. Abu: No, I like the style in which we play. MaMa: No, we don’t do music for fame or money. We do what we love and we love what we do. There’s no other way. 6) What are the makes of your instruments? Denchik: Pearl drums, Ziljian cymbals KiR: Yes, a mike )))) MaMa: LTD LesPaul, Gibson LesPaul. I sleep with them – they are my girlfriends )) Adu: LTD B-155, Ibanez Jema: LTD F-50, ESP 7) Which profession you would never choose and what profession would you like to acquire in the future? Jema: I wouldn’t like to be a nightman or a merry milkman. But I would like to become a world-wide famous musician. Abu: I wouldn’t want to be a state employee, but I wanna be a musician or a 3D designer. MaMa: I wouldn’t like to be a teacher in an art school and that’s where my education is leading me now. But I want to do music forever. If someone takes off my ears or I become deaf, I’ll kick the bucket. Music, in its every form is my love, life and profession! ) I’m not a person – I’m a musician ) Denchik: I don’t know what I wouldn’t like to be, but for sure I want to be a professional drummer, represent some company and perform. KiR: I wouldn’t like to work in an office. I want to do what I like – to create music, lyrics, play concerts, record songs and put out our works. 8) How long have you been playing your instruments? Why did each of you pick up the particular instrument which he plays? KiR: As for me, I’ve been looking for my cup of tea for a long time, have tried a lot of things and have finally found myself as it seems. MaMa: I started to play when I was very small. I strummed, screamed and played everything that was possible. But in the 7th grade I tried the guitar and it was love at first sight. I learnt how to play it myself. I like its shape, its smell but most of all I like the sounds of the music which we together create on the stage. Jema: I began to play the guitar when I was seven. That’s why since my childhood it captured my soul and mind. Abu: I started playing bass in somewhat 2002. I like low frequencies and to be a part of rhythm section. Denchik: I wanted to play drums since childhood, but I played the piano back than. When I was 13, I started playing drums. Now I study at the musical college to become a drummer. I’ll always play drums, they’re everything to me: the rhythm of my life and the pulse of my heart!!! 9) How did the name of your band appear? KiR: The name SorrowCryAfterRain is closely connected with the content and meaning of our music. When we finally decided on the style of our music, the name appeared all by itself. Later the name was shortened to the abbreviation S.C.A.R. 10) Say a couple of words to our readers. First of all we’d like to say that music is our life. Each of us works a lot and gives up a lot to the band. Not a single producer will make us play pop as we are united by one purpose and won’t change our principles for commerce. We write about what troubles us and our generation and we’re glad that the generation likes us as it’s very important – to be in demand. Translation by Olga Polomoshnova.
