Seven Circles

So, tell our readers about how the band was formed? =)

The current version of Seven Circles was formed in the summer of 2007. Our  rhythmguitarplayer and bassplayer has left the band since then. Otherwise the line-up is intact

Julia became your lead singer. Why did you choose  to combine a female vocal, which sounds really interesting in fact, with heavy sound?

Her image, voice and  stagecharisma is brilliant. Andreas is playing a lot keyboards as well and it looks antimetal to have a guy behind a keyboard rack singing. Julia will probably do all the lead vocals from now on. Her voice works great in hardrock as most people can tell if they listen to "Count to nine" for instance

Yes, the song sounds really cool! Where do you usually draw inspiration for your songs?

It´s different, Georg wrote Disappear and Zombiewalk, he is influenced by gothrock like Tiamat Sisters of Mercy but also Tool and System of a Down as you can hear if you listen to Zombiewalk

Your sound has become heavier, am I right?

Maybe but not  much we think.

What mystery is behind the name of the band?

Well Dante´s Seven Circles of hell was probably where we heard the name the first time. It sounds good we think. Works great if you have a hard time coming up with a logo to.

True. And does the name characterize you in this way or another?

Hard for us to tell, we are not influenced by Dante in any way when it comes to lyrics for instance. We just liked the name

Okay. Let's speak about live performances. What does it mean for you - to perform live?

It´s really fun especially know with Julia, she just improvises funny screams and stuff when there are no vocals just to entertain the audience, she loves to entertain.

That's how charisma works =) And have some  incidents, like forgetting the lyrics or falling, ever happened during your gigs?

Nothing serious, yet she is great, the old members Oscar and Håkan were not that accurate live but they are no longer in the band.

Do you think the line-up changes on the whole - not only in the lead singer position -  influenced the band - I mean the process of working, recording, etc?

Yes, Julia can play the saxophone as well and she also does on Count to Nine and No one but all improvised. Georg plays the bass on this recording

As I know, you'd like to perform in Russia very much. You have many Russian friends. Why Russia in particular?

Our favorite bands like Tiamat, Deathstars and Katatonia all stated that Russia was the best country they had played live in. The audience seems to be so enthuastic. So few bands go to Russia. In countries like UK,US and even Germany they have so many international bands touring on a regular basis

Well, many bands say that Russian audience is enthusiastic and I'm glad to hear  people like performing here! But what about Swedish audience? Aren't they enthusiastic? :

Yes the young ones 13-17, the older ones are less likely to be impressed by bands they haven´t heard about. And very often you are not allowed to g to gigs if you aren´t 18. Only a few people show up in general as well, only a few people come when undergrounds are playing. Very few people live in Sweden - only half a million in the Gothenburg area.

Underground culture still seems to become  more popular. New bands appear, they perform and have their fans. What do you think is the best way for an underground band to be heard about?

Street Teams are great if your music aren´t very commercial and radiofriendly. Devoted fans that work hard to spread the name of a band they know and like.

But underground and indie music seems to deny commercial success?

What do you mean by deny? do you mean that you can´t have commercial success if your music isn´t commercial (like trendy popmusic)?

Nope, not that. Of course, music shouldn't be commercial to become popular. I just heard that indie and underground bands don't really want this commercial success. They play for their pleasure and those people who listen to them.

That´s true.

Do you stick to this philosophy too?

Yes, by and large at least but it´s so expensive for us to go to Russia for instance  if you haven´t got a big fanbase there. If people buy are music then it´s a lot easier

What message do you want to deliver with the help of your songs?

Hard to tell, we don´t have any specific message we think, we don´t want to have a stamp on us really. many bands just sing powermetal with fantasyinspired lyrics for instance our songs are different from eachother.

Does that mean that you can't refer your music to some particular style, like just metal, or just rock?

Exactly, Zombiewalk and Disapear are both written by Georg but they sound entirely different for instance

That makes the music more interesting.  You have recorded new songs. And what are you working at now? Any videos or concerts in the future?

Right now we want to find a bassplayer that suits the band.

Good luck with that! And in the end, just drop a couple of words to the readers of our magazine?

Check out our website www.myspace.com/sevencircles. The songs are all different from eachother, the more people that contact us from a specific city the more likely it is that we will play in that city in the near future.

And we in our turn hope to see you in Russia and wish you loads of luck! Thanx a lot!

Thank you too.
