Bizarre Music Summary: Gloomy, tragic and mature, "Nightmare” – the most powerful work A7X have done up to the present day.

All the way from the release of the self-titled album "Avenged Sevenfold” in 2007 to the release of "Nightmare” in July of 2010, the Avenged Sevenfold’s musicians had lots of life experience. The death of the drummer – James The Rev Sullivan in December of 2009, undoubtedly, the most terrible incident happened. With that tragedy the musicians faced the questions of the band’s future and the recording of the almost completed album. Unanimously they decided to continue. The Rev made a huge contribution to recording of the demo of the album and the guys decided to pay tribute to the late fellow. Unless to record the album with guest-drummer, they’ve invited Jimmy’s idol – the drummer of Dream Theater Mike Portnoy. As a result Avenged Sevenfold presented a gloomy in both lyric and sentiment way, soaked in the pain of loss, mature and emotional release.
"Nightmare” consists of powerful metal hymns ("Natural Born Killer”, "God Hates Us”), and tragic ballades ("Buried Alive”, "Victim”). This album is full of masterful guitar solos and interesting findings (as, for example, the piano introduction and refrain in "Fiction”, the song which became the last one Jimmy The Rev wrote in his life), and the vocal of Matt Shadows  sounds desperately and hopelessly at times, makes the compositions even more tragic. Mike Portnoy’s skill in drumming puts a final touch on a canvas of this strong and impressive work named "Nightmare". The album ends with the lengthiest composition "Save Me”, where the melancholy keeps within 11 minutes on balked dreams and a pain of loneliness. By lyric "Nightmare” is the most personal and open album of all releases A7X have ever made. Musicians were not afraid to bare souls to listeners and to tell what it feels like to endure a nightmare not in a dream, but in reality.
"Nightmare” undoubtedly became the best A7X’s release up to the present date. All components of the perfectly recorded album are made at a high level. With the "Nightmare” album musicians of Avenged Sevenfold have enclosed much more, than usual emotions and experiences. Into each note they have put memory of the one who’s gone and who remains in the hearts of dear people forever.
