Baron: I was very anxious to get there and meet everyone and perform!
1. Greetings, Baron! We know that you have returned from Moscow recently. It was your first visit to Russia. What did you feel when you were invited to perform in this country?
Baron Misuraca: Greetings! I felt extremely honored, flattered and fortunate. I was very anxious to get there and meet everyone and perform! I could not wait to get off the plane and get to work.
2. Tell us how have you felt when you’ve sung for the first time in Russia and in the Kremlin at once?
Baron Misuraca: I felt very impressed with the event and the way it was organized. Everyone involved did an amazing job. The stage was the most lavish I have ever been on and the sound system was awesome. I felt very comfortable and felt a strong sense of camaraderie and closeness with the audience and the other performers that I met. I wish I could have taken everyone back home to New York City with me!
3. How has public accepted you?
Baron Misuraca: The public was just wonderful -- very genuine and warm! They made me feel very welcomed and appreciated. The show was very well received beyond my expectations. Everyone was dancing and singing along throughout my entire performance. It was a very humbling experience and one of the highlights of my entire musical career. A true milestone!
4. How have you got ready for the performance?
Baron Misuraca: As I usually do with all performances, I practice the songs over and over and practice singing scales (rather boring but important nonetheless). Weeks prior to my arrival in Moscow, I actually worked with a dance instructor for the dance interlude I did with my partner Dragata during one of the songs. I am happy to report that she did not step on my foot and I did not fall down!
5. What songs have you executed in the Kremlin and why exactly these?
Baron Misuraca: I performed renditions of the classic Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin songs: "Strangers In The Night", "Sway", "Mambo Italiano" and "My Way". My Russian producer, Julia Filchenkova and I choose these songs over others because we felt they would be most appreciated by our esteemed audience at the Kremlin.
6. What Russian musicians have you got acquainted with?
Baron Misuraca: Unfortunately with the exception of Muslim Magomaev, Gorky Park, some of the classic composers, the Red Army Choir and my fellow performers at the Kremlin (all of which I think are great) I am not really too acquainted with many other Russian musicians -- yet.
7. What can you say about the Russian musicians?
Baron Misuraca: I noticed that most musicians in Russia, and in Europe in general, all seem to take their craft very seriously, are all well trained and very professional. All qualities that I admire greatly.
8. Perhaps, there were some funny situations during your stay here. Can you tell us some?
Baron Misuraca: From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, my partner Dragata, my producer Julia, her best friend Elena Strelkova and I did nothing but laugh! I'm not sure why but, everything from my attempt at reading the Russian language to the way I swallowed my vitamin pills caused non stop comedy. At one point a very concerned hotel employee approached us and asked us why we were laughing so hard and for so long. As we say in the United States "I had everyone in stitches".
9. What thing has stayed in your memory from this trip most of all?
Baron Misuraca: The most memorable part of my trip was having the pleasure of meeting the gentlemen of the Transport ministry and various government officials and their family members at my performance. They stood as we raised our glasses to each other and we exchanged positive sentiments concerning the wonderful time we all had. One of the gentlemen proceeded to tell me that in me he saw the future of his country-- a true testament to the magic of the music of Frank Sinatra and friends. In my own tiny, tiny way I feel as if I made a humble contribution to both my country and yours. Nothing could be more meaningful or worthwhile than that. I fought back tears as I made my way back to my dressing room.
10. Do you plan to return to Russia?
Baron Misuraca: Absolutely. We are in the process of setting up some events in Moscow as we speak. I look forward to seeing all my comrades again real soon.
11. Your wishes to our readers.
Baron Misuraca: I wish all your readers the very best in everything they do and thank them for their interest in me. Until again! Thanks to Julia Filchenkova Interview by Olga Neretina (c) Bizarre-Music.net |
