We’re here in Bizarre Music believe firmly that music and sport are interconnected. If you look at some sportsmen just before the game, you’ll find that many of them will be holding iPods in their hands listening to music. Different music styles help to get into a special mood before a game. That’s the reason why many musicians go for heavy music which gets them into aggressive kind of mood before a game. And what about our musicians? They turned out to be great sportsmen and fans of sport! They will tell you everything about their sport tastes in our new special sport issue!

My UFOs about sport.
As for me, first of all, sport is two 6 kg weight dumbbell in my room. These two bitches occasionally make me loose my spirit and my heart go faster, but to a nice accompaniment like Lostprophets for instance they help to create good and cheerful mood for all day long. I won’t be lying dumbbells are the only sport I do. However, honestly speaking the only reason for it is hopeless laziness. I like watching beautiful trained bodies, except for women bodybuilders since I think they overdo it.
In the first place sport is to carry physical beauty and health which is radiated by everyone who supports this uneasy but noble life style. Sportsmen and musicians are very much alike in a way of fighting for victory – equally artists are competing for the Greater Successes. Trainings are in both fields, but alcohol and drugs are prohibited in sport, whereas in music they become truly Muses of artists.
Have you ever been to some sports events? Do you often attend sport games? What impressions have you got from them?

In 1997 I was in Denver, Colorado and the family where I lived took me to a hockey match. The local club – Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup then and it was fashionable to go to hockey matches. The first ever sport event I attended was the game between Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks. The Avalanche won 4-1 then. So, it was then when I became a hockey fan and, the team from Colorado in particular. I even have a signature of Avalanche’s goalie Patrick Roy! Later in my hometown I went to the games of Amur. By the way, one of the players of the current roaster likes our song "Love is a Verve”.
The band "Псы Вертинского":I’ve been to a sport event only once. It was some sort of the Asian figure skating championship. I got there accidentally: my friend’s girlfriend performed there. That’s how on a hangover Sunday evening four my friends and I found ourselves in the sport hall in Kemerovo. There were 20 people at most in this huge hall! We were the main source of stir there. But to be honest it all was pretty boring. I’m not interested in sports. I even couldn’t make myself watch the Olympics in Turin.
But despite all this I’m, just like a normal person who has brains and conscience, also distressed about the situation at the latest Olympics. I can really not give a damn about the competitions themselves, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that the sport accomplishments of our country are linked directly to its state. America and China are developing quickly in many branches and we can judge it by their results at the Olympics as well. Where’s Russia on this list? But despite that our disabled sportsmen are faster and better than those in other countries. What does it mean? Is Russia a country of disabled? Or does every disabled person here goes out every day as if for a battle? Actually there’s nothing to be happy about.
Of course we are so bohemian and creative individualists. Do we really need to worry with drunken stadiums for our sportsmen? Of course we do, because for our country sport achievements mean too much, even more than that! It can be just a sport for some other country, but not for us. We live and will live, play music and take our kids to kindergarten here. And here we don’t distinguish between bohemia and non-bohemia. Twenty people at the Asian figure skating championship is a terrible thing. But there was a great euphoria and anarchy after our doubtful results at football Euro champs. More vodka and beer, let our Arshavin score and we all will be crazy with joy.

The band "сИстра"I did boxing at university but it was boring. So I had to buy some cognac for my teacher to get a credit. Now I prefer to walk on foot rather than going by bus and that’s the end of my friendship with sport.
The
band "Псы Вертинского":I go to the swimming pool. It’s not sport of course, just some sort of PE. For me it’s important to be in this element from time to time. I feel comfy in water. I can’t say the same thing about a gym though. Sweaty men in front of the mirror look disgusting. Men lift iron to look more masculine. Reminds me of some kind of narcissism accompanied by horrible smell. In water you’re clean, alone, impersonal and almost asexual. There’s no competition at all. You are left alone with the water element. For example when you’re stuck in a traffic jam, you become very much annoyed, even if you are stuck there only 5 minutes out of 10 minutes of the whole way. If it takes you 30 minutes to get somewhere, you go as if it were some kind of a pleasant trip. The same goes for sport, excluding playing sports. It’s hard for me to lift weight both – morally and physically. It’s pretty hard to run, ski or swim. It is also the discovery of some new territories, though these are all prejudices in the end. People look after their bodies and it gives rise to confidence in them and respect for them. Though I can’t boast any great sport achievements, for me sport is more than just morning exercises. My main aim of attending the swimming pool is to exhaust myself, take a shower and look at the world with different eyes.

What’s the link between music and sport in your opinion considering the fact that music is often played at sport games?
The band "сИстра"I once talked to the player from Khabarovsk hockey team and he said that all of them listened to either metal or heavy metal. "When Metallica blasts at the arena I want to strive in the game” – said Amur’s defenseman to me. So there’s a link. Music inspires people to do various kinds of things. As for sportsmen, I think it either relaxes, or excites them. Brendan Morrison from Anaheim Mighty Ducks says that he listens to classic music before the games. If we can compare a concert with an important sport game, I also listen to Radiohead to get rid of nervousness.
The
band "Псы Вертинского":There are many music pieces which provoke the rush of adrenaline into blood thus making one dash into action immediately. I mean they provoke not to dance but to act! A good example is Guano Apes’ "Lord of the Boards”. The link of this song with sport is pretty clear. It also relates to "Song 2” and "Hands Up” playing at hockey games. And if you also take a look at NHL PC games trailers, you’ll understand everything yourself. Well, at least if you won’t understand, you’ll feel it.
