Daniel Behrmann: I hope you'll like the new album

1) - Hello Daniel! What have you been up to lately? How’s the recording of Der Bote new album going?
Hello! The recordings have been completed for DER BOTE on the whole. I have played the guitars already in November 2009. At the moment the first songs are mixed by Boris and Frank. I am very  excited about the final result!

2) - You play in Rammstein tribute band Feuerengel. How was the band started?
The band was formed in 1997 by Boris (vocals) and Holger (bass). However, I am a permanent member of FEUERENGEL since 2005 and had nothing to do with the process of creation.

3)  - Feuerengel are playing many shows till the end of the year. What do you expect from the upcoming tour?
From the beginning of year we have a new scenery, new outfits, new effects and new songs in the program. This gives a lot of pleasure. We already had some great concerts and I expect that goes on till the end of the year so. We still have some shows which I am very pleased about especially. Among other things, the concerts in my hometown Bremen and the final show in Schwerin.
Both cities were already in the last few years real highlights and I assume that this will be so again in 2010!

4) - What was your first acquaintance with the music of Rammstein?
I saw in the end of the 90th the videos of " Engel" and "Du Hast” on MTV, however, found both songs at that time not especially good. This changed in 2001 with "Sonne" – wonderful video, wonderful song. Since then I have been a RAMMSTEIN fan! And, in the meantime, I also like the old RAMMSTEIN albums very much.

5) - What is your greatest inspiration for writing music?
I take my inspiration from the fact that I hear different music directions and possibly play a lot of guitar. I have not written complete own songs, however, already for some years. The last creative work was occupying with the demos of DER BOTE. Partially I took over the guitar riffs of the demo versions, however, partially, completely changed or added my own ideas.

6) How did you take to playing the guitar?
I began to play guitar at the age of about 12 years because my best friend at that time also learnt guitar. Then he also showed me the first chords. Since then I never had lessons but I've taught myself. I try to deal with different types of music. It is possible to learn a lot in the studio during CD productions. Currently, the recording of DER BOTE was very instructive, especially in regard of timing!

7) - Do you remember your first ever guitar and what was the first song you played?
Unfortunately, no. My first electric guitar was just a German cheap brand. But it was black. That was important;) I have always tried to play my favorite songs, but which was the first song, I cannot remember.

8) - Are there any other spheres of art where you would like to try your hand at?
I am a complete photo junkie and always impressed when people can make photos well! Unfortunately, I lack time to occupy with it, but I will try out this sometime certainly!

9) - If you had an opportunity to write a soundtrack for a film, what film genre would it be and why?
Difficult question! I think if I would even write a soundtrack, it would definitely be a rather dark film. However, there are different soundtracks from different genres which inspire me.  Great example is the soundtrack to "A Straight Story”, "Dead Poets Society” and "Lord Of The Rings”. Quentin Tarantino has based his song selection and always has great soundtracks.

10) - Have you got any quote or phrase that inspires you?
I can think of these three spontaneously:
"There is no life before coffee!”
(unknown author)

"I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life. To put to rout all that was not life; and not, when I had come to die, discover that I had not lived."
(Henry David Thoreau - „Walden")

"I know it’s only rock’n’roll, but I like it!”
(Rolling Stones)

11) - Thank you for the interview! Our traditional last question: what would you like to wish to the readers of Bizarre Music?
I thank you for your interest in DER BOTE, and I hope you’ll like the new album!
