DDA: In the beginning we went by the name "Carnagize"

1. Hello! Your band was formed in 2009, you already have some recorded songs and there were performances. When can we wait for your first album?
We're currently working on an album but alas it's still going to take a while until we can actually produce it. However, thanks to all the songs we've been working on up to now, it seems that we've finally found our style for good!

2. Tell us the story of creation of the group.
It's kind of a weird story. At first there were our ex screamer Michael and a guy named Martin. With the aim to form a band, they met Jens at a club and later on stumbled upon Sarina at a bar. Somewhere in between they picked up a keyboarder named Ruth, but she left the band soon after. So all that was missing was a bassist and a keyboarder. Since they all went to the same university at that point of time, they all took the (really crowded) subway home one day when Michael randomly shouted "Does anyone here play bass?!" and someone in the crowd lifted his hand. Turned out it was Ando, who happily agreed to join the band. Martin had left the band by now and later on, Max joined as well, providing keyboard skills and clean vocals.

3. How you have thought up this name?
In the beginning we went by the name "Carnagize" but it didn't take long until we decided it a) didn't fit our style of music and b) was way too embarrassing. So Sarina set up a blog entry, asking her online friends to throw potential band names at her. So in the end we had a giant list of names to choose from. Their favorite turned out to be "Dark Days Ahead", which eventually turned into "Dark Daze Ahead".

4. Do you remember how the first song has been written? Who has written it?
Our first song was "The Devil's Mansion", written by Jens O'. He comes up with all these song lyrics at random. It just happens! Its style was pretty different from what we play these days; with the majority of the lyrics being screamed and the riffs being not exactly very challenging. It felt great to be able to perform our first, very own song, but we certainly moved on since then - a lot!

5. When was your debut, and how public has met you?
Our first time on stage took place in a small underground club in Germany on August 22, 2009. We had invited a whole lot of friends, so the general mood was really great - it was awesome to see all those people support us like that. However, we were pretty nervous of course and we're glad we've gained a lot of experience since then!

6. What relations in group between musicians? Was the struggle for leadership? How do you resolve disagreements?
Things were pretty difficult concerning leadership back when our screamer was still part of the band - he and the T-Zen twins usually had conflicting ideas and it didn't exactly work out great. However, he eventually left the band and things calmed down a lot since then. Everyone found their place and things are peaceful now... as long as you don't stuff us all into the same car!

7. Do you already feel famous?
Haha, of course!

8. With what musicians would you like to write the song together?
Tough decision, for there are so many musicians we love and who inspire us. Maybe Maynard James Keenan, Daniel Wirtz, Parkway Drive or Till Lindemann - that would sure be interesting!

9. Share your future plans.
In the near future we're planning to print our first official T-shirts and record another EP. We're looking forward to performing lots and lots of gigs and, of course, hopefully set foot outside of Germany soon!

10. And the last question. What will you wish to readers of Bizarre Music?
Big thanks to you awesome people for all your support, and thanks a bunch to the team as well for giving us the opportunity to be interviewed! We wish you all the best and hope to meet you some day! Rock on!
