Interview with Sensai (The Pleasures)
1. Hey, Stefan!
Hello Hello!
2. Why "Sensai"? Where have you taken such interesting nickname?
It is associated with Japan somehow?
Well, the name is associated with Mangas first of all. When we started
the Pleasures, we all decided that we need big huge names, of course.
At that time I read the storys of "Angle Sanctuary" and so
I choose the name of Alexiell. But the Pleasures would not be the Pleasures
if the name had not title and no second name. So it was Sensai Scott
Alexiell Pleasure. Over the years the names developed from pathetic
art into real names that one is called with, and so, because it was
easy to keep in mind, "Sensai" or "Sen" became my
name. Funny thing, that I never could have imagined 7 Years ago: There
are a lots of people now, that only know me under this name. I really
like that.
3. When have you begun playing music?
I was 8 years old when my parents decided to send me to music school.
Finally, because the years before I had some Musical Instruments like
small pianos for children. I guess they where just fed up with hearing
me beating up the kitchen inventory to play music...
4. Your first band.
My first band is called "The Force" and I still run it. I
have wonderful people there, that went a long way with me together.
You may know one of them, Any, from Lord of the lost. In that band we
celebrate the songs that we love just for fun and party.
5. What principle have you decided to base on the work?
The moment that I feel not to live a dream, not to give 100 percent,
not to try to do something new - something better, I am gonna give up
and do something else.
...side note: this principle brings the problem that you are never satisfied
with what you do. Maybe that is a kind of motor...
6. You have very nice vocal. Have you ever thought about singing career?
Haha, thank you. For I do not like the word "career" at all,
I never thougt about that. I have some songs recorded on my own, just
for fun, and maybe some day I am gonna sing them for the ones that want
to hear it, but at the moment Iam completely busied with my Pleasure
boys. And for Iam allowed to sing there too, there is not such a point
missing in my life.
7. How have you found the band "The Pleasures"?
Hmmm, I guess just destiny. I met Chris during my study time. He was
working on that institute, and we talked about audio engineering and
music. Finally he showed me a brand new band, called the pleasures,
that was just building up as an Idea. They needed a bass player. So
I bought a new bass...
8.This band has very interesting style. You want something to express
it, or just a style harmonizes with the music well?
I thought about that very often. I came to the point, that it is a snake
biting its own tail. The Pleasures give you the opportunity to do, what
I always wanted to do, but never had the right catalyst. The other way
round this music does not work, when played by five guys in sportswear.
The thing that this fact expresses is: Use us! Use us as a way to do,
whatever you wanted to do. This "Free you mind thing" is very
old, but it is still a big part of the truth. I dare not to imagine,
what I would have become, if I have not had this band to set me free.
I would have missed a lot, and I wish everybody to share this experience!
9. Your listeners, who are they?
Our listeners are mixed up and not a closed society. But mostly it are
young people want to have fun. As usual for boy bands, there are a little
more girls in the audience then men, but that changes from concert to
concert. Interesting fact is, that the generation of T-Rex Bowie and
The Sweet is also into that music and style. If some of thees veterans
see us by chance, then you can bet, that they show up in dress and make
up at the next concert. Its good to connect generations...
10. Chris Harms has left the band "The Pleasures", you have
left the band "Lord of the Lost". Everyone knows that you
both were members of these bands. Is it connected with any conflict
between you?
No. No conflict at all. The reasons that we left could be brought down
at one point: Time. Chris had been fully into the construction of Lotl,
for it was a relatively new band at this time. So his focus changed
because a day only has 24 hours. When I had to decide to leave Lotl
a year later, it was the same with me, for I run an own Sound Company
that needs all my attention. The upcoming Tours and the rehearsal affort
for Lotl could not have been covered by me, and - like Chris with the
Pleasures - I did not want to disappoint my bandmates. So everybody
focuses on the "main Projects" in his life BEFORE mentioning
that it does not work while you are at it. All tough the decisions where
painful, there was no conflict at all. Chris is still working for The
Pleasures and I am still working for Lotl. Both no longer stage but
behind the scenes. ...and after all: lets see what next year brings
for this both bands together
11.Stefan, I know that you help the band "FeuerEngel" also.
You go with this band to the concerts. Please tell us more about it.
Right. Since 4 years I have the honor to be the Sound technician of
that band, which is the biggest Rammstein Tribute Show in and around
germany. My job is to stand in the middle of the venue, with a desk
of blinking knobs, and creating the sound that is hopefully worth to
worship the original. Moths before the concerts I talk to the venues
and coordinate the stage and the equipment, for we have very special
needs to create the sound, to have a impressing light show and shoot
our fireworks.
12. How have you made the acquaintance of Boris Delic (the vocalist
of the band "Der Bote" and "FeuerEngel")?
4 years ago I worked as a freelancer for live sound, and I have been
ordered for another company to do the sound on a concert. Feuerengel
have been the headliner. The day went very well, me and the guys were
happy about our work together. After the concert I went backstage, telling
Boris that their style to pay Tribute to one of my favorite bands is
just amazing. To do the sound for this music is my "personal Mount
Everest". The guys did not found a sound technician for germany
at this point, so a week later I have been back on their desk again
in another city. Since theese days we went through many things together,
that I will remember for the rest of my life.
13. Do you have favourite cities to which you arrive willingly again
and again?
No. Usually my job brings the opportunity to stay in one city not longer
then 3 days to a week. Then I leave again. So every city has its charms
and things that I hate about it. Lucky me: I always can enjoy the good
things, and do not have to care about the bad things that long
After all, of course Hamburg is a home for me, as much as I enjoy staying
at my parents house...
14. Do you plan to visit Russia with concerts?
Hihi! We already thought about that. Do you know any good clubs where
they welcome germans in makeup?
15. Share your plans for the future.
We have been working on our upcoming album for quite while now, and
we want it to be finished. We are close to that point.
At the moment we are rehearsing some special versions of our songs,
to present them at the end of the year in a special live event, but
I wont tell you much (its gonna be announced soon).
We will use the winter time again to build some new stage effects, for
we like toys for big boys...
Currently we are thinking about where to play next year, where to tour,
and which festivals we want to join. Usual work in autumn. The Rock
n Roll business is unfortunately not that "spontaneous" that
it may seem. To plan all this there are lots of people working in lots
of offices.
16. And the last. Perhaps, there is something else, what you would like
to tell or add?
I would like to thank you for you interest, and everybody for his patiance
to read this. Hope to see you on a show. Keep in mind: You cant rock
n roll when your dead!
