Marco

1. Hello Marco! How are you?
Hi Olga! I’m fine and relaxed today!

2. Is this your first interview for the Russian fans? What are you feeling?
Yes, this is my first non-italian interview… and I confess I’m quite tense now… half tense and half honoured!

3. Tell us a little about yourself. Do you study or work?
I studied until 2 years ago, when I graduated at university in pharmaceutical chemistry. Then I was jobless (but creative) and now I work as pharmacist… I’m quite funny with the white coat!

4. How did you decide to become a musician?
Well, when I was a kid, I was totally charmed by Michael Jackson… His movements, his sweet but powerful voice and his amazing songs. So I started to sing his songs and figure me as Jacko. So the dream began… and I started to perform songs at school… I was 16.

5. Do you have a musical education?
I studied vocal lessons for 2 years… There I learnt the correct vocal interpretation and respiration. It was very useful for my musical education. Though I think it’s fundamental to have many experiences on stage to become a good singer, performer and entertainer.

6. Now let's talk about your creative work. You are a member of 3 groups: «ZTL» – «Zona Traffico Libero», «Synapsyche» and «Ultima Necat». Give a description of each of them.
ZTL is my first real band… it was 2002, almost 10 years ago. We met at school and the journey began, initially playing italian covers and then composing brand new songs. Between 2005 and 2009 we had great responses and won some contests, so we started to think about a self-made album and, in the late 2010, the full-length "L’ora di chi suona” was finally out.
ULTIMA NECAT is a melodic death / alternative metal band, born from the ashes of the metalcore ensemble Un-Kind. Valez, the Un-Kind singer, is a great friend of mine and in 2008 proposed me to combine his growls with my clean vocals and so it was. We released a demo for labels, played in many festivals, opened for famous bands, and we’re ready for a full-length album.
SYNAPSYCHE is a techno-industrial-electro project, born in 2009 by an idea of the main composer Mannequinetik, which plays with me also in another band. I used scream vocals for the first time and the result was excellent… We have 6 songs online, other 4 work-in-progress and a 13-songs concept album already fixed in our minds, though we don’t want to play live yet.

7. All of them are significantly different from each other. How do you manage to combine it all?
It could be strange, but I’m not involved so hard in the songwriting process. I mean, I wrote mostly of the lyrics for my bands but not much music, just some vocal lines, although my ideas and opinions about music are important for my bands. I take care of the "internet business” about my bands, and I can do it anytime. I’m a bit lazy, but with a modicum of organization and much enthusiasm I can follow every thing (with the help of the other members, of course!)

8. Everyone knows that even one band takes a lot of time and strength. Whence you take strength for 3 projects?
It sounds predictable, but I think that the real strength you need to take care of a band is correlated to the ambition with the project: ambition about creating great music and having ever more listeners. You also need professional musicians to play with and, as I already said, a bit of organization. That’s all, in my opinion. And actually I’m still alive, so I think it works!

9. Is it not so tiresome for you to spend so much time with musicians?
It depends on the moments and circumstances. Some decisions are hard to take with ZTL (4-piece) and Ultima Necat (6 members) and we discuss much sometimes, even heatedly. Having a band is like having a girlfriend, more amplified! So, in my case, it’s like having a harem! But, democratically or insistently, we always reach an agreement… at least so far!

10. Who is the author of the lyrics in the bands?
As said before, I wrote many lyrics. Synapsyche lyrics are mine. With Ultima Necat, mostly of the lyrics are written by me and the other songs by Valez. With ZTL, the lyrics are in italian, and every single member has composed something, cause everyone had something great to say.

11. In 2010 you have done with the band «ZTL» your first clip «Stupida Domenica». Tell us about this event in detail.
It was an amazing experience! The director is our drummer Dino, who also studies to work in the movie field. One of his exams could be developed as a music video, and he had this crazy funny idea of the stop-motion clip. It consists of a sequence of 4000 photos, and we filmed lying on a cold pavement all time (in November and without heating) for 2 months! I was jobless in those days so it wasn’t a problem for me… He did a really great job!

12. What will be the next clip and for which band?
We don’t know. We have 3 nominated songs for a clip, but it’s still too soon for an announcement…

13. The band «ZTL» will celebrate 10 years next year. What will you do to please your fans?
To record the best full-length ever! That should be fantastic for us and for our fans! I hope to have our second album completed in the end of 2012… Provided that Maya agree!

14. Who helped you to set up the band «SYNAPSYCHE»?
Mannequinetik is the mastermind, he wanted my vocals for his project and I was enchanted by his ability as composer of electro music and with sound software. I know you wanna know something about him, but he loves anonymity… I should stay anonymous too, but I had to expose myself in the web to promote the project. People shouldn’t judge our music in relation of our look… The only trace I can give about him is this: he plays with me in another band of mine…

15. «SYNAPSYCHE» recently made a cover on song «HIM» «Your Sweet 666». Has this song (or maybe the band) some special meaning for you?
I love HIM, and Mannequinetik too. One day he told me about the chance of that Synapsyche cover song… I didn’t completely agree, because I was building a complex concept about every song of us. I listened to his version of that song and it was extremely good, so we initially thought "Your Sweet 666” as a bonus song or a pre-album single release. In the end, that song will be included in the album, anyway, cause it’s amazing!

16. As we know, you and Stefano (bass of the «ZTL») joined the band «Ultima Necat». Why did this happen?
Valez told me about the birth of a new alternative death metal act, and he wanted me to sing with him. I’m a great fan of melodic death metal bands as In Flames, Soilwork, and I accepted. We searched for a bass player for a long time, then I realized I already knew a great one, who loves that kind of music too, and plays with me in ZTL. He was delighted about the project!

17. What is your greatest inspiration for writing music?
Life, and the fragility of life. This realization inspires me, always. So, when I want to talk about love and other experiences of life I write for ZTL, when I want to write something about inner struggles and hatred I always think about Ultima Necat… When I think about death and sins, my mind is linked to Synapsyche. Everything won’t exist without the consciousness about my life. I think this approach is also very constructive about my choices, cause it’s neither pessimist nor optimist. Seize the day, and live deeply!

18. How many reviews do you get from listeners?
Only some. ZTL album had nice and bad reviews, but it’s still a self-made album. Ultima Necat and Synapsyche songs has great responses too, so I have hopes for my future!

19. Have you ever been to Russia? What can you say about this country?
Russia must be wonderful, though I haven’t been there yet. It’s the cradle of great history and very charming. I’d really love to travel in Moscow, or St. Petersburg and visit every thing I can. And, well, what can I say about Russian girls? The hottest girls in the planet! I don’t say this to please you anyway. I keep in touch with many Russian people, and I have to say that you are the heartiest people ever… and the most beautiful, I repeat!

20. What is your creative dream.
Write and play music until I die! Really, I can’t live without music, it’s my lifeblood. No matter if I will become a star or just the singer of my town. My life is bound to music.

21. Share your plans for the future.
A full-length album with Ultima Necat and Synapsyche, and a good label with ZTL. And, of course, many many live shows! My final target doesn’t exist, I always want more.

22. Thank you for the interview, Marco! And our last question. What would you like to wish to our readers?
Thank you for the time, it was a pleasure. I won’t wish you happiness, cause happiness is nothing without sadness. I wish you an exiting life, cause just an exiting life can give traces about our usefulness and consciousness. Cheers Russians!

Bizarre Music thanks Yulia Banadinovich for the help in organizing the interview.
