SfaR: We seriously think that our band has a future!
Imagine, that I’m a person who discovers your band for the first time. What would you say to interest me ? We are a Gothic rock band. Our music is heavy, and with dynamic solo parts, sublimated by Raven’s deep voice. The visual appearance is a very important part of the live shows. SfaR combines the delicacy of lace with the decadence of Rock.
Why is your band called like this, and who got the idea ? It comes from the Cradle Of Filth song. Raven and I (Cathouse) chose this name when we founded the band because we were listening to random music, and it was just this song. By the way, this name was representing the music we wanted to create. We also didn’t want to take too much time to find a name.
How long have you been playing together ? Did you already know each other before the band ? 4 members of the band already played together in a previous project. Aveda, Scars and I (Cathouse) knew each other since forever (Aveda is my brother and Scars a childhood friend). We met Raven 5 years ago, and German arrived in the band 2 years ago. We have had the same line up since 2 years now
Let’s talk about the lives. Remember your first one. How was it, and how did the audience react ? Our first SfaR live was great, but we had not much audience and there were lots of technical problems before the live, particularly a few electrical ones, (We took electric shocks when we touched guitar and microphone simultaneously). But it was a great moment.
Do you often receive letters from admirers, and in a more general way, how do you feel when you know that people appreciate what you do ? We receive some comments and emails on MySpace from time to time, but not very often for the moment. We are proud that people like what we do, and it motivates us to give everything to draw the attention of more people.
Tell me which countries you would like to win with your music after France? We would like to go to the east ! First Germany, because it’s just next to us, then Japan, and Russia of course. Our drummer German is Russian and we would be pleased to go with him to his country.
Have you ever played abroad ? Not for the moment, but we will play in Germany and Switzerland soon.
When you seriously think about it, do you think that your band has a future ? Because it depends of the mind of the band after all… We seriously think that our band has a future, and in my opinion (Cathouse), it will depend of the motivation and implication of all the band members, but we will see.
Did some funny things happen during the lives ? Yes, when I ask German for a solo and that he refuses, and I have to insist in front of the audience (Cathouse) Each time Cathouse was wearing his pink feather boa and that everyone was laughing at him (Aveda, Scars, German and Raven)
If we could divide the audience in 3 categories : Fans, people who like this kind of music, fanatical teenage girls. Which one of these would you prefer and why ? Raven : I prefer people who like this kind of music, because they like our band for the music, and because I don’t like when people are running after me and screaming, it’s useless. Scars : My opinion is the same as Raven, but I would add a few teenage girls just for fun. Aveda : People who like this kind of music, because they would have a drink with us, and of course girls for the situations that it brings. Cathouse : Hysterical teenage girls because I love to be half naked and hear they scream "Catouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuz !” (laugh) No, seriously, people who like the music, because they are the ones who will appreciate our work without being hysterical, and this will help us to get better in the future. German : Fans because we need them, but more precisely, I think people who like this kind of music because they will be more critical and by this way we could see our progress.
