Water & Bodies: "We worked hard to get the message out and it paid off!"
The alternative indie-rock band Water & Bodies released their debut
album "Light Year" on February 22. What's interesting about it is that
its release was fully based on fan donation. Got interested? Then read
on our interview with Beau and find out more about Water & Bodies and
their release!
- First of all, congratulations with the release of your debut album «Light Year»! How can you yourself estimate the album? Beau: I am so happy with how the album turned out. We spent allot of time working on these songs and making them the best they could be to us. It's always nice to hear the final product after all the time and energy you put into a project!
- What is the main philosophy of the album? Beau: I would say the lyrics of Moments in a Life kind of sum up the album meaning to me. Don't let life pass you by.
- How did the recordings of the album go? Were there any especially memorable moments during the process of work at it? Beau: It was a blessing to work with producer Rian Lewis. We've been friends with him forever and final got the chance to work with him and we made magic! It was a 6 month journey full of good beer, laughs, and stupid quotes. Oh and we recorded an album as well.
- What kinds of feelings did you have the moment the recordings finished and you realised your debut album was ready? Beau: It was a huge relief to finish it. Toward the end we had ants in our pants to get it finished in time for our Feb release and we didn't want to push it back. But we all came together for the win.
- Could you tell us more about how the cover of the album appeared? Who came up with the idea for art work and in what way is it connected with the music inside? Beau: Chris our singer had the idea for the art work. He's always wanted to do a super simple cover of showing us bare. It’s a very stark cover to express how simple and pure life can be. It fits perfect with the feel of the album.
- You’ve had some shows and there are more to come. What impressions have you got from these live shows? Beau: The live shows have been amazing! We sold out our Portland release show which was an amazing feeling for us. We worked hard to get the message out and it paid off!
- In general, what can you compare your emotions on stage with? Beau: We just feel it hard up there. We just have fun on stage, cause there is nothing better than playing music together.
- How does it usually feel - to present brand new material to the audience, both: live and releasing a new album? Beau: We really don't ever think about it. If we like a song we play it and that’s that, but if we like something usually the people listening enjoy it too.
- Water is vital for humans. And so is music, for at least a great number of humans. Who was your major music influence and how has music changed you? Beau: I have so many influences in life. Music is a huge influence. Just the fact that it exists and we can create feelings with notes is a crazy concept. The fact that I am here on this earth and have been given the ability to play an instrument along side of the dudes in this band is influence in its own right.
- What do you think about modern music? Have you got any especially favorite musicians on the contemporary stage? Beau: Modern music is funny to me. To the masses what is normal or popular music sounds like shit to me. Those people making that music have a formula that is brainwashing listeners to think on the surface and people aren't expanding their minds like they once did in the past. It's all about booty shaking on the dance floor, hooking up, and money. I'm all for having fun and I have a soft spot for some popular music, but I take it for what it is. I don't think anyone is really looking at the big picture of life and I really feel like human existence is going the way of that movie "Idiocracy" For real. Lets shape up people.
- What’s the most memorable event for you in the life of Water & Bodies? Beau: It's been such a short time so I'm sure there is much more to come but recording this record would be one and I would say selling out our hometown was another one. It amazing to think our music is connecting so many people!
- What are you plans for the future? Beau: We are just going to do what we do baby. Play shows, hang out, write music, and enjoy life. We are winning 8 billion to 0 in the words of Charlie Sheen.
